What’s happening?

The utilities are lobbying the CA Public Utilities Commission to charge a new solar penalty fee between $30 and $90 per month – just for putting solar panels on the roof. They’re also proposing to cut the credit solar users receive for sharing their surplus energy with the community. These changes would make solar too expensive for middle and working class people, causing the rooftop solar market to collapse. That’s exactly what the utilities want because rooftop solar cuts into their profits. 
 

Governor Newsom’s administration is expected to make a final decision early in 2022.
